Beautiful place with cabin rentals or camp sights, clean restrooms with hot showers, playground, and fishing but they do not allow swimming anymore.
For YEARS our large family had its reunion at the lodge in Homes County State Park.. It was wonderful...campy, but grest! Meals were prepared right next to the large lodge. There were large ladies and men's sleeping quarters on either side of the lodge. The lake was and still is absolutely beautiful and fishing is allowed. What wonderful memories we have of successful reunions in that beautiful and peaceful atmosphere! Well, two - or was it three ? - years ago, the State sold the lodge area to a private group which then completely fenced the area off. It totally tore up our family reunion plans for family that traveled from Indiana, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Tennessee and other areas. Our familiar "home" for the traditional family reunion that helped keep us coming abruptly ended. Since the sale, our family has bounced from here to there, trying to keep the family united, but it has been very costly and many - especially the core, the older aunts and uncles who originated the yearly reunion back in the 50's - are no longer with us or can't afford the cost of motels. We cousins are struggling to keep the tradition going. We grew from children to our children bringing their children. Will those children continue the tradition? We think, finally, that we might have a possible resolution to our delimna...another State park in Mississippi. It means farther traveling for some of our family and the remaining core family. We're going to try this new location, to us, out in a couple of months and hope that the tradition will continue. There will be more recreation available, which will add a plus to the weekend.
